Persian red

In the Persian Gulf, on a small island just off the coast of Bandar Abbas, a huge seam of red ochre runs deep into the sea. One large quarry is still being exploited today. A very fine quality red ochre is produced there. Locally, the ochre is used to colour a sauce made with fish that will spice up your meal !
